Abortion legislation and marriage legislation make the GOP more senselessly big government than the Democrats, because the big government they’ve chosen to implement is a moral one, which is the worst kind of big government. It’s an ideological big government - one that is impossible to enforce, that makes some people less equal than others, that takes away freedoms of certain kinds of people, and that perpetuates a culture of moral uniformity over one of universal ethics and diversity.

Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.

I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian co-workers at 30 Rock, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket. The other producers and I pride ourselves on 30 Rock being a diverse, safe and fair workplace.

I’ve avoided giving Tracy Morgan’s fanatical rant any attention because in an educated and enlightened society it would deserve none. But Tina Fey’s response is admirable and right. And it reaffirms her awesomeness.
